What is the Difference Between Highline and Drawerline Kitchen Units?
A highline base unit is a kitchen base unit that has one door the full height of the unit. A drawerline base unit is a kitchen unit that has a smaller doors with a drawer above, usually referred to as a cutlery drawer.
Which Unit is Most Commonly Used Between a Drawerline Unit or a Baseline Unit?
Drawerline units used to be the most popular, in fact the only type of kitchen units used, however the baseline units have far exceeded them in popularity. It is far more usual to have a full set of baseline units with one drawer unit. usually in the middle, often below the hob. The typical width of these units have also grown over time with 800mm and 1000mm drawer packs being the most popular in modern kitchens.
What Size is a Baseline Unit?
The baseline unit will be the standard full height of the base unit which is 720mm high. The door to the unit will be slightly shorter. A base unit is 720mm high, while the door is 715mm high. This is so that the door doesn't catch on the worktop above.
What Size is a Drawerline Unit?
The drawerline unit is also a standard 720mm high. This is fronted with a door and a drawer front. These are 570mm and 140mm high respectively. This gives a total of 710mm, with the space between the door and drawer, and the drawer on the worktop used to avoid the doors and drawers catching.
Are Drawerline and Baseline Units the Only Base Units?
Draweline and baseline are the most popular units, but there are also several other base units to consider.
Drawer Units
Drawer units come in a huge array of different configurations. The two variations are base on number of drawers and the width of the units. Drawer units come in a number of sizes from 300mm wide to 1000mm wide. The number of drawers vary from two to five drawers, although it is also possible to get drawers within drawers! These have grown in popularity in recent year. They give a really clean looking design to your kitchen while giving you extra practical hidden storage space.
Drawers Inside Highline Units
One trend that continues to grow in popularity is hiding drawers inside highline base units. These are hidden drawers that are visible once the door is opened. The doors require different hinges, that allow the door to open wider, so that the drawer doesn't catch on the door when you'll the drawer out.
Integrated Appliances
Strictly speaking these aren't base units, as they are appliances hidden behind a kitchen door. These appliances aren't visible. They look like a standard highline base unit, but on pulling the door open, they reveal an appliance. They are a really popular way of hiding white goods in a kitchen and are extremely popular in most modern kitchens.
Corner Base Units
The corner base units are designed to make the most of the space available to you in the corner of your kitchen. the two most popular units are the L shaped unit, especially when used in conjunction with a pull-out rotating basket, and a blind corner unit. Usually used with a Nuvola/Le Mans pull out tray. Both of these designs can make the most of what would otherwise be dead space in your kitchen.
